Meet The 2011-2012 Exec

We, the exec, are a small committee of people democratically elected by you, the general Bandsoc membership, to deal with the running of the society. The main aim is to improve the society for current and future members, and we'll let you know how we plan to do that on the forums and at the weekly general meetings. If you have any woes, you should let us know and we'll try our hardest to sort it out for you.

Exec elections happen once a year, usually part way through the last term of university. If you want to run for election next time around follow the guidelines that appear on the forum closer to the time...

President - Findlay

President

Hey all I'm Findlay, your president for the coming year. I was vice-president last year and so I'm looking forward to making Adam's year as busy as mine was XD.

I love playing and watching live music and I'm hoping to see you lot at a load of gigs over the year. I'll going to be working with the guys (and girl) below me to make sure we can give you guys the best musical experience at uni ending with our Battle of the Bands.

As for myself I'm a drummer (I play in Stone Mirage) and a dabble (badly) with a little guitar. Outside of music I also occasionally get some work done towards my Biomedical Science degree. If you see me around feel free to come and say hello.

Vice President And Equal Ops - Adam

Vice President

Greetings! My name is Adam, and I will be your Vice President for the coming year.

My position this year brings me to the fore-front of the society, helping you get the best out of your Bandsoc. I will be mainly helping Findlay and the rest of our wonderful exec to plan socials, regular events, and of course our annual Battle of the Bands competition, as well as taking a semi managerial role in the proceedings of the society. I will also be responsible for making sure that Bandsoc maintains its equal opportunities policy for all members. Bandsoc has been the highlight of my university life, and I hope you all get as much from it as I have!

In my free time I play guitar, and am mostly known for my work within 'Apache Death Squad' (although I am sure the other members of 'CBA' would dispute that...). Whilst metal may be my forte, I love everything from Willie Nelson to Cradle of Filth. Oh, and I sometimes forget that I am a 3rd year Biomedic (but that's not important right?). If there's anything you need, feel free to come and find me for a chat or email me! I am more than happy to help.

Peace.

Social Secretary - Snowy

Social Sec

So I'm Snowy, the Bandsoc Social Secretary for 2011/2012.

The student music scene is one of the best things about Warwick, and over the next year I aim to convince as many people of that fact as possible! From informal jam nights to trips to the frequent gigs played by Bandsoc bands in the local area, there's a lot of fun to be had. Join up, chatter on the forums and get in touch if you want to know what's going on :)

I play a handful of brass instruments as part of ska band Fourth Wave, while currently in the second year of a PhD mixing various flavours of science. I'm also sometimes seen about campus so whether I'm relaxing or reading, come up and say hi!

Treasurer - Ardeshir

Treasurer

Hey guys, I'm Ardeshir, your Treasurer for the upcoming year.

My job is to sort out our lovely society's finances and help the society get RICH, (by taking lots of money from you lot for practice room bookings). I may enjoy being extremely popular for 15 minutes every Wednesday at our meetings!

I'm a guitarist and love all kinds of music, especially progressive rock. Get involved with Bandsoc, it is full of awesomeness and a great place to meet loads of new people and showcase your talents!

Publicity - Becca

Publicity

Oh hi! I'm Becca and I'm the Bandsoc Publicity Officer 2011-2012.

This year I'll be in charge of promoting our society as much as possible, whether it be through designing flyers, producing copious amounts of posters or running around manically yelling at people to join Bandsoc. Okay, perhaps not the latter... I'll also be on hand if you need any help spreading the word about your band / gig / CD etc. so please don't hesitate to ask!

As of September 2011 I'll be a final year French student. Despite the ridiculous workload (groan), I'll be looking to start up one or two bands. I sing, play guitar and am currently trying to teach myself piano (with VERY mixed results!). I've got quite a varied music taste but particularly love prog/heavy/groove metal, electro and folk.

Secretary - Michael

Secretary

Hey everyone, I'm Michael and i'm your Bandsoc Secretary for the year.

It's my job to keep everyone up to date with the ins and outs of Bandsoc, this basically equates to me sending out an email each week promoting gigs and upcoming events and opportunities.2

I'm here so that all of you can email the society with any questions you have and hopefully I can answer them pretty quickly, I also make an effort to befriend every member of the society, so feel free to talk to me in person whenever about whatever.

I'm a 4th year Maths and Physics student, I love music, mainly metal but will give anything a go. In my spare time I try to play guitar as much as possible and like to annoy my band mates by constantly shredding/sweeping. I'm currently in Apache Death Squad, but i'm hoping to try out a new project or two soon.

Technical Officer - Matt

Technical Officer

Hey I'm Matt, your friendly Bandsoc Technical Officer for 2011/12.

My job is to maintain all the Bandsoc gear. If you notice anything amiss, let me know! I'm also into producing/recording/mixing bands - so if you've got some session files that need tweaking, I'll be happy to help out. :D

I'm the drummer for Scored for Style Points, and the legendary Mr. Coc. Outside of term time I play in a pop-punk band called The Dirt Radicals... Apart from that I'm studying Law & Business Studies... If you see me around campus, come over and say hi!

Webmaster - Craig

Webmaster

Hey folks, my name's Craig, and as Bandsoc's webmaster for 2011-2012 it's my job to keep the website and forums running smoothly. I'm a Computer Science student, so in theory I'm well-suited to the role. In theory.

Musically I've got reasonably broad tastes: since joining Bandsoc I've been in a ska-punk band, an ambient-prog group, and an obscure, comedic 80s-rock act called Mr. Coc. It's been an incredibly fun experience for me as a musician, and I certainly encourage new members to broaden their horizons in the same manner I did.

Over the coming year I hope to expand the website in several areas, adding new content and improving it as a resource for people wanting to learn more about the society, find or form bands, spread the word about their existing bands, and so on. Naturally I'm normally found in a darkened room hovering over a keyboard, but if you do see me around outside, feel free to buy me a beer.
