Random question, but do The Narwhals have a myspace or any recordings up? I can't stop listening to that last song in their set, it's so damn good! _________________ Drummer, Fourth Wave |

Well congratulations to 3 = Car. I think on reflection you guys deserved to get through.... Just. Well done to all the other bands, it was a particularly strong semi final this year and the final should be a whole load of awesomeness. So on to my attempt at an opinion.
Lilac joke - well you said it, a few stringing issues but overall a very competant performance. I still love the stomping and long may it continue. The acapella moments set you apart and just need a lil practice to perfect timing an tuning.
Cannibal fish - I think Ardeshir said it all really, much better performance than the heat, where you knocked out digital earth and that is no mean feat. Frontman was v engaging an has a great voice, which I will come back to.
3 = car - you guys got rave reviews off my housemate, who is usually v negative about most bands. So well done. Your songs have great hooks and the harmony was vastly improved from the heat. The only part I didn't like was the "new" slower song. So work on that for the final and (as past winners of the semi have shown) you will have a chance.
Fourth wave - As fun as last week, albeit with a slightly more cramped area for the crowd to dance in. I should be there on friday as drinking and skanking is always a good night. I hav no doubt you scored high on stage presence. However, and this is just me being picky, you were not as tight as last week, although that ain't what ska is about. Your slow bits in your songs need to be slower so they have more definition and whilst your singer has a great voice, I feel it needs to be a bit less relaxed in delivery... Maybe have a backing singer punctuating it.
Narwhals - really unfortuate to end the night and play after the energy of fourth wave, but again the frontman was entertaining. I think I Just about prefer this to CF and it'll be great to see you guys play more with both bands. You certainly deserved to be there and your songs are great to listen to. I also love robinsons squash.
So there we have it. BOTB nearly done with for another year. Roll on the final. It's gonna be v close and I am completely torn between LR and black dogs, and at the same time thinking that anyone could win it with a stellar performance on the night. _________________ I Prefer My Snow Leopard?

I heard about this yesterday. In Spayce (Formerly Kelly's / Jam Jam) Thursday Week 10. Isn't it Hot Magenta, Such Modern Ways, Digital Earth, Robert and the Naylors and Cannibal Fish?
If this is the confirmed lineup then it should be a cracking night. _________________ I Prefer My Snow Leopard?

other bands were amazing, we weren't at all expecting to get through - i actually missed the results countdown. we had no moniters for the 2nd or 3rd song so had no idea what it sounded like. that might explain any vocal mishaps... sorry about that. all in all, an amazing night really. such a high standard, still can't believe we're through.

Wow, that's got to be a record on the heat recordings upload! Thanks!
I'm on my work computer now, so can't actually listen to them - but the Lilac Joke one only seems to be 7mins long... Is this an error on my computer or have you got the rest of this please?! _________________ My username has taken on a whole new resonance. So listen to this band instead:

Woot for the recordings!
The sound in the semi-finals is really nice. It's making me realise how tough the competition was last night, everybody sounds amazing. I've decided The Narwhals were my band of the night, your set was incredible. _________________ Drummer, Fourth Wave |

Out of interest, at which point along the line do RaW take their feed?
As in, is what I hear from the mp3 pretty much exactly as it was heard by the crowd last night, only at different volume? Or is it intercepted before some part of the mixing at the sound desk? _________________ Got horns?

not sure, but the volume of my guitar dramatically increases after our first song and I didn't change anything myself! _________________ Lethe

It's a combination of stereo out from the desk and stereo ambient mics (good ones, wish we had some!) mixed by that man Withers. _________________ HOT MAGENTA in your FACE!
