The University of Warwick's Band Society

Welcome to the BandSoc Website!

Bandsoc is exactly what it says, the society for bands. Whatever your preferred genre we have the widest variety of bands and people as one of the university's largest and most active societies. Whether you're already making music or looking to get started, there will always be someone to jam with. We embrace all genres of music, whether its folk or funk, rock or punk, jazz, blues, metal, latin, whatever. Come and make some music!

We have access to our own fully equipped practice facilities on campus. Due to the rebuild, our practice room is currently located in the Westwood Music Centre. Our practice room is available to book in 2 hour slots at a fraction of the cost of those in the local area (£5 when booked at our weekly meetings, £6 online). We run lessons for some musical instruments. We can also help you arrange gigs in campus bars and beyond and can provide assistance and advice regarding recording, promotion, transport and equipment. Just ask the friendly exec!

Our annual Battle of the Bands spectacular showdown happens throughout term 2, with 30 acts fighting it out to be known as the best band in the University. This year, for the first time, the event will be taking place in the brand new Copper Rooms. In the past, the event has attracted some of the biggest crowds seen at society-run events, and allows our members to showcase their talents to the univeristy population at large. Previous winners have gone on to support the likes of Bowling For Soup and Feeder at Union events and at Final Fling - the largest event of the academic calendar!

To join the society, simply sign up on the SU portal or at SUHQ Reception. To book the practice room, come along to the weekly meeting or register your band here on the site and book the room online.

This is it everyone. The event you have all been waiting for!

Battle of the Bands, Bandsoc's own battle royal, will be opening its gates in Week 5, with both Heat 1 and Heat 2 on Tuesday the 8th and Thursday the 10th of February respectively. It's going to be a remarkable week with performances from the first 12 bands in the competition. It all kicks off at 8pm in Copper Rooms 2, with just a 3 quid entry fee (4 quid for non-members). You'd be barmy to miss it!

On behalf of the Bandsoc Exec, I would like to wish everybody a very Happy New Year!

Hope you're all getting excited for Battle of the Bands. Don't forget that band registration opens on Wednesday Week 1 at our meeting and closes on Sunday Week 2. The draw for the Heats is Wednesday Week 3, with Heat 1 and 2 commencing on Tuesday and Thursday of Week 5 respectively.
